Who We Are

Legacy was established by Pape Latyr Gning, our President and Founder, who hails from Dakar, Senegal in West Africa. While soccer was his initial passion during childhood, his trajectory shifted as he outgrew his peers. Recognized for his height, Pape transitioned from soccer to basketball.Motivated to excel and challenge his older brother, an esteemed basketball player in the community, Pape dedicated himself to rigorous training and extensive practice. Through his unwavering commitment and membership in select basketball clubs, he began to garner attention and acclaim for his on-court prowess. Notably, Seeds Academy, a leading institution in the country, established by Amadou Gallo Fall, current President of The BAL (the new African Basketball League), recognized Pape's talents and actively recruited him to join their prestigious school program.

Between 2006 and 2008, Pape Later Going's journey included notable achievements:

2006-08: African Cup U19 Participation: Pape participated in The African Cup U19 in Guinea Conakry during this period, showcasing his talent on an international stage.

2009: Championship with US Rail: Pape clinched the championship cup with the esteemed Senegalese club, US Rail, marking a significant achievement for both him and the club.
BWB and National Team Involvement: Following his championship victory, Pape's involvement extended to the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) initiative, as well as his participation in the national U18 Team Africa Cup in Guinea Conakry. He was also selected for the U20 Team that attended the Nike Global Challenge in Portland.

2013: Full Scholarship Opportunity: Pape's exceptional skills earned him a full scholarship in 2013, enabling him to pursue his dual aspirations of playing basketball and obtaining an education in the United States.

2020: Participation in BAL Combine: Pape's journey continued with participation in the BAL Combine, which took place at the Brooklyn Nets HSS training center. Coaching and Mentorship: Pape transitioned to sharing his expertise as a coach, trainer, and educator, making impactful contributions to various basketball programs. His mentorship extended to his community, where he actively engaged in outreach and charity events.

Coaching Roles: Pape's coaching roles included positions with the Austin Magic, Swarm Iowa, and the Quad Cities Mosque, where he utilized his basketball knowledge to guide and develop aspiring players.

Pape's story is one of continuous growth, from his early achievements on the court to his dedication to mentoring and coaching, contributing positively to the basketball community and beyond.
